This looks delicious. I try and eat vegan the most I can, but it's hard when I don't find many vegan items in my local grocery store. What are the staple vegan items that you recommend and where can you find them for a good price?

I SHALL be making this!!!

Stunning! I am going vegan for 50 days starting Monday, so I will be sure to add this to my diet :P

Hi neha — We find good prices on vegan items in international markets and grocery stores with bulk bins. Coconut milk and chili sauce, for example, are almost always cheaper in int'l markets. Items like nutritional yeast, TVP, and oats are a better value from bulk bins.

We also suggest fudging around with the recipes and substituting ingredients for more common place items. For instance, syrup in place of agave or use less coconut milk/almond milk in place of soy cream.

We are working on a few info-graphs that will function as references for grocery staples, substitutions, etc. If you would like a little more help with this feel free to send us an email here.

This looks great! Can't wait to make it!

Btw, Neha, it's harder for the perishable items, but for dry items like nutritional yeast, TVP etc I've found you order a lot of them online.

I can't do soy, but this looks AMAZING and I might try it with coconut or almond milk and some sort of organic pudding for texture??? And BTW, your made up brand illustrations are PURE HILARITY.

@neha Beans, lentils & chickpeas are versatile, nutritious, cheap and available pretty much everywhere! Great for knocking up chilies, stews, bean burgers etc.

Great recipe for Chocolate Mousse! I used oatmilk instead of soy creamer, and threw in a handful of cashews when blending to help thicken the mousse. Great recipe!

Vegan Stoner, this recipe looks fantastic and healthy! I'd really love to try this out, but...can I substitute the soy cream with soy milk?

This reminds me of a decadent peanut butter icing I just saw on http://www.fengshuidana.com/2012/02/27/gluten-free-beet-brownies-that-rock/...the brownies she makes are just gluten free (eggs in them) but the icing is something I'm bookmarking for later and think it might be nice to dollop on this, no?

Everything on your site is awesome! Just ordered the cookbook. My question though are there vegan choc chips I could find somewhere? Because I think most have milk in them

The Vegan Stoner said...

Hi Anonymous. Usually the darker the chocolate, the better the chance of them being vegan. Check the ingredients carefully. Dark chocolate nibs and carob chips make good replacements, if you can't find any vegan brands at your local grocery store.

Loved this recipe, but might omit the cooca powder and double the chocolate chips, it didn't dissolve and made it grainy and not creamy

Did anyone else's mouth water when they saw this?
